In all my tests, I'm logging into all PCs with my AD account. I am able to Solicite RA and use RDP to connect to this problematic "expert" PC.Ĥ.

However, since I can use other "expert" PCs to connect to this "novice" PC with and without the above settings, I believe that the problem lies with my one "expert" PC. DCOM, Simple File Sharing and the registry change to "Winlogon" have all been tried on the "novice" PC. All of my XP firewalls on the LAN are disabled.Ģ. I've tried all of them in the evolution of where I stand today. Thanks for the cookie cutter response Linney, but among the posts I've found prior to posting my question, many of them were posts that included responses from you. For some reason, I can't launch that program when the "Connect" button is pressed.Ĭhris RE: Offering Remote Assistance linney (TechnicalUser) 24 Aug 06 16:40 It's not launching RDP yet, rather it should bring up the current user that is logged into this PC. When you type in the PC name or IP address and press "Connect", what is exactly happening at the point of pressing the "Connect" button. Everything on the web points to permissions on the "novice" PC. My question is this, where would I find permissions to offer RA on the "expert" PC. This tells me it's not even attempting to connect to this PC. But, other "novice" PCs can offer and receive successfully.Īlso, if I type a fictional PC name (one that doesn't exist on my LAN) or an IP address that doesn't exist (255.255.255.255) it imediately says "Permission Denied". So, to clear up confusion, my "expert" PC can't offer RA, nor can it accept RA.

Except when I attempt to offer RA to my original "expert" PC. The reason I've come to this conclusion is because I've tried to offer RA from these PCs, reversing their role (from novice to expert) and it works fine. What I've narrowed it down to is permissions on the "expert" PC. I've double and even triple checked the local GP on a couple of these PCs and everything still seems to be intact. I've scoured the web trying to find out what has changed since last week that won't allow me to do this, but I everything seems to check out fine. I then tried it on several other PCs and also received this error message. Today when I attempted to offer remote assistance to one of the PCs, I received a "Permission Denied" error message. After doing so, I tested it on a couple of these other PCs and they also worked fine. I deployed this PC and then went around to the rest of my PCs on my LAN to make the necessary changes (enabling in the local GP) to my other PCs.

A week ago, I setup and tested offering Remote Assistance on a fresh install of WinXP SP2. I'm currently having a strange issue when attempting to offer remote assistance.
